Frequently Asked Questions

What Families Often Ask

Finding support for your child can feel unfamiliar, especially when you are not sure what kind of help may be needed or where to begin. If you do not see your question here, please reach out. We are always happy to listen and help you navigate the options.

How do I know if my child may benefit from therapy?

You may have questions about movement, communication, play, sensory needs, behavior, feeding, self-care, or participation in everyday routines. You do not need to know which type of therapy your child needs before contacting us. Tell us what you have been noticing, and we can help you consider the next step.

Does my child need a diagnosis or pediatrician referral?

A diagnosis or referral is not always required for private-pay screening or evaluation. Requirements vary by service and funding source. Services through Golden Gate Regional Center must meet GGRC eligibility and authorization requirements.

How do I get started?

Complete our New Patient Inquiry form and tell us a little about your child, your questions, and the support you are looking for. We will review your inquiry, contact you using your preferred method, and help determine whether a screening, evaluation, or another service may be appropriate. If your family moves forward, our team will create your Jane profile, send secure intake forms, and schedule services with you.

What is the difference between a screening and a formal evaluation?

A screening is a brief look at a specific area of development and can help determine whether a comprehensive evaluation may be useful. A formal evaluation provides a fuller understanding of strengths and needs and may include standardized assessments, clinical observation, play, age-appropriate activities, and information from the important people in the child's life.

Where do you provide therapy?

Services may be available at our San Mateo center, at a child's school or childcare program, in the home, or at Trinta Park or another local park or community setting when appropriate. Availability depends on the child's needs, requested service, therapist availability, travel distance, weather, park conditions, and scheduling. School or program services may require permission, coordination, and an agreement with the organization.

Do you accept insurance?

Nurturly Kids accepts Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC) referrals and private pay. We also collaborate with Beaming Health, which helps families navigate pediatric care, services, and resources.

We are an out-of-network provider and do not work directly with insurance companies. Depending on your plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of your therapy costs. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to learn about your out-of-network benefits, reimbursement rates, and submission requirements.

What is your cancellation policy?

At least 48 hours before the service, there is no cancellation fee and any amount already paid will be refunded. Between 24 and 48 hours before the service, a $50 cancellation fee applies and any remaining amount already paid will be refunded. Less than 24 hours before the service, or for a no-show, the full service charge applies.

Does my child need to receive individual therapy to join a group?

Not necessarily. Some groups and classes may be open to children who are not receiving individual therapy at Nurturly Kids. Each program may have its own age range, goals, and participation requirements.
